About Body Therapy
Craniosacral Therapy (CST)
Craniosacral Therapy is a gentle, noninvasive, light-touch therapy that modifies and corrects restrictions in the craniosacral system. It is beneficial for all age groups: from newborns to the aged; from those with chronic, debilitating conditions to highly functioning athletes who wish to gain an edge in their performances.
CST is a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the functioning of a physiological body system called the craniosacral system, which is comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surrounds and protects the brain and spinal cord. The CST system has a rhythm that can be felt at key body points to pinpoint the source of an obstruction or stress. Once the source has been determined, therapists can assist the natural movement of the fluid and related soft tissue to help the body self-correct.
By complementing the body's natural healing processes, CST is increasingly used as a preventative health measure for its ability to bolster resistance to problems associated with pain and dysfunction, including:
- Migraine Headache
- Chronic Neck & Back Pain
- Central Nervous System Disorders
- Orthopedic Problems
- Learning Disabilities
- Chronic Fatigue
- Emotional Difficulties
- Stress & Tension-Related Disorders
- Post-Surgical Dysfunction
Response to CST varies from individual to individual and condition to condition. Your response is uniquely your own and can't be compared to anyone else. A client may feel deeply relaxed or fall asleep; at other times, he or she may talk a great deal, recalling hidden memories or expressing emotions. The number of sessions needed varies widely from just one up to three or more a week or over the course of several weeks.
Visceral Manipulation (VM)
Visceral Manipulation was developed by the French Osteopath Jean-Pierre Barral.
"Viscera" relates to the internal organs of the body, such as the liver, kidneys and intestines. Visceral Manipulation is a gentle manual therapy that aids your body's ability to release restrictions and unhealthy compensations that cause pain and dysfunction. Visceral Manipulation, or VM, does not focus solely on the site of pain or dysfunction, but evaluates the entire body to find the source of the problem. VM therapy re-establishes the body's ability to adapt and restore itself to health.
Lymph Drainage Therapy (LDT)
Lymph Drainage Therapy is an innovative hands-on method of lympathic drainage developed by Bruno Chikly, MD, DO. LDT is the first technique that enables practitioners to detect and palpate the specific rhythm, direction, depth and quality of the lymph flow anywhere in the body. With developed listening skills, LDT practitioners are able to use their hands to assess and enhance overall circulation as well as determine the best alternative pathways for draining stagnant body fluid.
